Glossary: Yacht Platform, Pool and Water-Toy Terms
Plain definitions of the terms used for floating platforms, yacht pools, slides and water-toy docks. For practical advice, see the Buying Guide.
- Air pump
- An electric pump used to inflate inflatable products. Dockee offers a 500 W pump for smaller platforms, loungers and accessories and a 1200 W pump for large platforms and pools; both run on standard 230 V (EU) power.
- AirLink Tube
- An inflatable connector that joins Dockee platforms, pools, docks and ramps into one continuous floating surface. It is inflated until rigid, slid into the connection loops and fastened with integrated straps.
- Bar and PSI
- Units of pressure used for inflatables. PSI means pounds per square inch; 1 bar is about 14.5 PSI. The recommended pressure for each product is given in its instructions.
- Daybed
- A wide inflatable lounger for relaxing on the water, on a floating platform or ashore. Dockee makes a Single Luxe Daybed for one person and a Twin Luxe Daybed for two.
- Drop-stitch
- A construction in which two layers of fabric are joined by a dense array of internal threads. When inflated, the threads keep the surfaces flat and parallel, which lets an inflatable platform or SUP board feel firm and stable.
- E-foil
- An electric hydrofoil board: a battery-powered board with a hydrofoil wing below the water that lifts the board above the surface at speed. An e-foil ramp gives riders a smooth place to launch and land.
- Floating platform
- An inflatable deck that floats next to or behind a yacht, used for sunbathing, swimming and mooring water toys. Dockee Premium Teak Platforms come in 2.05, 4.10, 6.16 and 8.20 m lengths, each 205 cm wide.
- ISO 25649
- A multi-part international standard series titled "Floating leisure articles for use on and in the water". It sets safety requirements and test methods for floating leisure products.
- ISO 6185
- A multi-part international standard series for inflatable boats, with separate parts for different boat sizes and engine powers.
- Jellyfish net
- A fine-mesh net integrated into a yacht pool that keeps jellyfish, seaweed and floating debris out of the swimming area. It does not replace supervision of swimmers.
- Jet ski dock
- A floating dock for parking personal watercraft next to a yacht. Dockee jet ski docks such as the Jet Ski Duo Park hold up to two jet skis, with divided arms that keep them apart.
- PVC
- Polyvinyl chloride, a durable plastic used as a coating on fabric for inflatable products. Dockee platforms, pools and docks use 0.9 mm PVC combined with drop-stitch fabric.
- Reinforced PVC
- PVC with an embedded woven fabric layer that adds strength and tear resistance. It is used, for example, in yacht slides and SUP boards.
- Seabob
- The brand name of an electric underwater scooter that pulls a rider along on and below the surface. Seabobs are common yacht water toys and can be moored on a toy dock or C-Dock.
- Stern
- The rear part of a boat or yacht. Floating platforms, pools and docks are usually placed at the stern, next to the swim platform.
- SUP
- Stand-up paddle board: a board you stand on and propel with a single paddle. Inflatable SUPs use drop-stitch construction; Dockee SUP boards are 10'6" (320 × 80 × 15 cm).
- Swim platform
- The low platform at the stern of a yacht, close to the waterline, used to get into and out of the water. A floating platform extends this area on the water.
- Tailor-made
- A product adapted to a specific yacht in size, surface or configuration. Dockee prepares an individual quote with specification, lead time and delivery for each tailor-made project.
- Teak-look surface
- The non-slip top surface of Dockee platforms, pools and jet ski docks, designed with the warm look of a teak deck. It is a teak look only, not real wood.
- Tender
- A small boat carried by or towed behind a yacht, used to take people and supplies between the yacht and the shore.
- Toy dock
- A floating dock for storing and launching water toys such as jet skis, Seabobs, SUP boards and e-foils next to a yacht.
- Transom
- The flat, usually vertical surface that forms the back of a boat's hull. On many yachts the swim platform is built onto the transom.
- Valve
- The fitting through which an inflatable product is filled with air and deflated. It must be closed for inflation and capped afterwards so that the product holds its pressure.
- Yacht pool
- Also called a sea pool: a floating frame with a netted swimming area, placed next to a yacht so guests can swim in the sea in a protected space. Dockee offers the Deluxe Water Pool (4.10, 6.20, 8.20 m) and the Ultimate Yacht Pool (6.16 m).
- Yacht slide
- An inflatable slide mounted to the side of a yacht that leads from the deck into the water. Models are sized by height; each lists its total height and slide length.
